Good For You Girls Natural Skin Care
At the Go Green Expo last month, I had the opportunity to learn about a ton of really cool eco-friendly products. One item particularly struck my eye: Good For You Girls.
Moms, if you have a tween or teen daughter, you’ve probably caught her sneaking some of your blush or eye shadow, right? Or begging to use your foundation to cover up that dreaded pimple that popped up the night of the dance? Well, Good For You Girls’ philosophy is that beautiful skin is natural skin. Created by moms, this natural line of skin care is perfect for your daughters and made without toxic chemicals.
The products were created with organic extracts (think organic chamomile, calendula, and lavender extracts) and essential oils (like avocado and jojoba oils). They’ve got a gel cleanser to wipe away dirt, a blemish wash to clean pores, and a moisturizer to keep skin hydrated (with no oily residue!). Check out their site to learn more about Good For You Girls, and see a list of ingredients to avoid when buying skin care products.

Eco-Craft: Shrinky Dink Art From #6 Plastic
As a kid, I loved shrinky dink art. In fact, I still do. I am fascinated by the shrinking process and how bold the colors look when it is finished.I found this Eco-Craft that you and your kids will surely love. The best part: it is made with #6 plastic. Way to put the eco in Eco-Craft!

Throw a Super Healthy Super Bowl Party
Want to throw a great Super Bowl bash this weekend while keeping your family, your guests, and your planet all happy and healthy? Try some of KIWI’s tips:
- If you’re like us, you’re not a #1 fan of the paper plates and plastic cups that often pop up at parties. Keep trash to a minimum at your get-together by opting for reusable or recyclable dinnerware and flatware.
- Keep your party low-impact by offering some easy vegetarian options. Instead of the usual hummus and veggie tray, try something unexpected, like our Spinach, Sun-Dried Tomato and Goat Cheese Pita Pizzas.
- To keep nervous tummies satisfied, serve natural and organic snacks like popchips and Coleman Organic Buffalo Chicken Wings.
- Don’t forget to recycle. Set up several recycling bins for your guests so that glass, plastic and paper can be separated as per your local recycling program.
Be sure to enter our Super Healthy Super Bowl Party and win eco sports equipment & snacks.
Enjoy watching the game, stellar commercials and the Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band halftime show!

Daily Gift Guru: The Earth Friends
My cousin, Maggie, loves The Earth Friends dolls. She takes Jayden everywhere she goes. I know she’ll be happy to receive another eco groovy doll to add to her entourage. They are handmade in California and inspire to learn to honor ourselves, each other and our planet. The best part is that all of the materials are either recycled or organic. For $64, you can get one for girls and boys at Whole Foods nationwide or theearthfriends.com.

Edamommy’s Vegan Diary: Feeling Guilty
I was making my family some brownies the other night and the two of them would have eaten the whole batch if I hadn’t had a sugar intervention.
Here’s where the nickname came in.
I looked over at my daughter and she had a streak of brownie goo which connected her two eyebrows. The resulting name (which I won’t utter in front of her)?
Unibrownie.
I think it’s interesting the way we label everything and everyone. I was uneasy being a vegan mainly because I wasn’t sure I could live up to the regulations associated with the name. Would people judge me for wearing leather shoes? Or scrutinize my beverages? So, I’m not a big fan of labels.
I think that might be the key to something the trendsters are calling green guilt. You try really hard to recycle, compost, reduce waste, carry a water bottle, eat local, eat plants, grow your own…but then you get to the gym and forget the water bottle. Or you jump on a treadmill and feel guilty because the thing is plugged in. It should be the other way around, right? If you pedal, run, step or walk, shouldn’t you be generating electricity?
My green guilt comes from my house, mainly. I am desperate to install solar panels, get rid of my lawn with attractive moss and groundcover, have a huge and bountiful garden (impervious to deer and bunnies), get a new eco-mattress for every bed and ditch the rugs for renewable wood floors. But, it’s not in the budget in the short-term. And, you have to remove things which have to be recycled, disposed of or somehow evaporated.
We do our best.
